Ledro lake and Passo Tremalzo climbing from the path of Ponale is perhaps the bike tour of par excellence in the Trentino Garda and one of the most popular tours in Europe. Free of cars and transformed into hiking and biking paths some 20 years ago thanks to the construction of a tunnel, the old road leading to Lake Ledro is a dirt road of a few exaltation miles over Lake Garda, in contact with the white rock of the mountain.
We are in the area of what 100 years ago was the border between the newly Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The road between Tremalzo and Passo Nota and the strong Ponale Alto are military works that today delight the biker. Of great interest were also the Ledro stilt houses, dating to the Bronze Age, rebuilt at the museum on the lake shore.
From Torbole you ride along the cycle path to Riva del Garda and from here start 4 km of spectacular sweet dirt climb up the Ponale. Quickly the environment leaves behind the Mediterranean features of Garda to become alpine; Briefly shares the path with the asphalted provincial road to return to the woods and cross peaceful villages of Pré and Molina di Ledro. Once reached Lake Ledro, continue along the road around the lake in clockwise direction, with a dirt stretch stretching out to Pieve di Ledro. Taking the bike path it runs to Lake Ampola after passing Bezzecca, who keeps the famous Garibaldi telegram “obey” in response to the King who ordered him not to pursue the conquest of northern Trentino.
You climb to Tremalzo Pass for 15km on a long asphalt road, which requires a high physical preparation; at Tremalzo Pass you will have a well-deserved break. Here an endless, unpaved but unusual descent begins, but it is very fun and exciting due to the mountain views and Lake Garda. From Passo Nota you climb about 150m of altitude then go down to Bondo Valley to Vesio and from here you reach Limone sul Garda. From Limone to Riva del Garda we will return with the Ferry Boat, avoiding the dangerous and dark tunnels of the busy road and resting after the tiring tour.
Very challenging path with a “muscular” MTB. Indispensable good physical fitness and technical skill combined with concentration and good tolerance to any unforeseen and inconveniences and discomfort caused by bad weather, temperature variations, duration of effort given the length of the path, and other specific factors of a tour of this type. The E-Bike with assisted pedal obviously makes it all the less heavy, but due to possible factors such as the lack of time and capacity of the battery and the weight of the E-Bike, reservations are only accepted if carried out by people with proven Cycling experience.
