The tour offers a variety of routes in perfect mountain style, remaining essentially at a high point which is entirely developed on the plateau of Folgaria and Lavarone. The destination of Monte Maggio will be reached through paths instead of dirt roads. This important peak at 1853m high, the theater of bloody battles during World War I, being positioned right on the border line between the Kingdom of Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it offers 360 ° views over the whole Pre-Alpine Alps.
The starting point is from the hamlet of Serrada at 1200m, the village in the Folgaria plateau, from here we proceed immersed in wonderful woods towards Fondo Piccolo pedaling on a calm slope that will make you appreciate the context in which we will be immersed. Woods, valleys, meadows, to the ruins of Fort Dosso del Sommo. Above all, the remains of which continue for Passo Coe. From the Passo, going down a steep descent you can go to Monte Maggio, through trails that sometimes require you to get off and continue walking in a “Portage” technique.
This stretch is very panoramic and overlooks the Terragnolo Valley. Cliffs, views to the bottom, crags and valleys frame this immense natural scenery where it will be possible to see some roe deer or chamois and high altitude birds of prey. The arrival will be at the cross of Monte Maggio! The descent from the top, on a dirt road is rather “livened up” given the condition of the fund very disconnected but still practicable.
Malga Campoluzzo awaits us to then continue on the uphill climb of Valbona, very impressive being a military road that was practically excavated directly in the rock. Alpime house Pioverna and Rumor Refuge will be stops for refreshment and rest breaks. You will continue to the Fondo Grande, crossing it, returning to the point of departure in Serrada crossing a well-defined coniferous forest, in a spectacular alpine setting.
The route is rather long and therefore requires good basic training. Technically, there are some steps where you need to take care of being particularly exposed but sufficiently wide to safely pass.
